On April 24, the Associated Students of Chemeketa welcomed a recounting of bilingual students’ experiences overcoming adversity, published in the book, “Living In Two Languages.” 50 individuals were present for the opening remarks from the editors, Cecelia Monto & Vania Diaz Romero Paz, followed by guest speaker Chemeketa’s Chicano Latino Studies professor Leo Rasca. Eight student speakers then shared their written experiences covering topics such as domestic violence, wartime hardships, and prescription medication abuse.
