Late Friday night, spectators across the U.S. and Europe had a rare chance to see the Northern Lights.
Residents in the Pacific Northwest, like in Oregon and Washington, were among many to see the effects of what the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) attributed to uncommon geomagnetic storms.

While the colors were difficult to detect with the naked eye, many people were able to capture the striking colors in the sky with cameras. Smartphones proved incredibly adept at this with many vivid photos taken with them.
