Monday May 20 marked the date of the Chemeketa English Club’s creative writing workshop.
Held in the Gretchen Schuette Art Gallery from 1 to 3 p.m., the event hosted both students and professors alike. Of the thirteen people present, Grace Cooper, the vice president of the English Club, hosted the event.
The workshop opened with a five-minute writing prompt, after which individuals were granted the opportunity to share what they had written.
The workshop featured three of Chemeketa’s English professors as speakers. First was Jeremy Trabue. His advice addressed the idea of omitting details and avoiding excess word use. Following his presentation, participants were challenged to write a 10-12 word short story in order to practice cutting down on wordiness.
Next was Sara Dennison. Her central message highlighted the importance of reevaluating one’s perspective during revision. Participants were then asked to write a description of their bedroom in a single sentence.
The event ended with LeAnna Crawford covering how to capture accurate imagery through utilizing sensory language in writing.
